Holiday rentals in Corsica - Gîtes de France® in Corsica
from our selection of 1,045 gîtes, chambres d'hôtes, group gîtes and
campsites in Corsica, by the sea, in the mountains, in the countryside and in
town. The most beautiful island in the Mediterranean reaches for the sky.
More than half of its land surface is situated above 400 metres. Its most
beautiful villages were built on high ground to protect them from Byzantine,
Moorish and Genovese invaders.
History buffs will love this island. The statues and menhirs of Filitosa, the monoliths of Palaggiu, the Roman ruins in Aléria and the countless Genovese towers all bear witness to five centuries of domination.
Do you want to discover the Corsican coastline? Your first stop is the arid Desert of the Agriates close to Saint-Florent. then come the citadel of Calvi and Scandola - Europe's largest marine reserve - followed by the Bay of Porto and the magical Calanche (creeks) of Piana. Further south you will reach Bonifacio and then head back up towards the wild creeks and beaches around Porto-Vecchio, before finally reaching the untamed shores of the Cap Corse at the island's northernmost tip.
What about going inland? Be sure to visit the olive groves of the Upper Balagna, the Niolo and its sheep barns, or the Needles of Bavella. Make a stop along your way to taste a boar stew, delicious chesses and desserts made with chestnut flour.
